Rigged, 2023, steel, blown glass, 300 x 50 x 50 cm
The sculpture Rigged consists of two elements: A steel ladder leaning against the wall and variously shaped, red-transparent glass bodies, some of which hang over the ladder and are scattered on the floor.
This work subverts the functionality of a ladder, which is meant to provide access to a place, and transform it into a dysfunctional structure. Blown glass always embodies the breath and carries a physical gesture with in it. In this case, the forms appear deflated and hang lifelessly over the deformed rungs. Rigged represents a reflection on social ascent, ambitions, and the ideology of progress.
