The series Nachtgesichter originated from moulds taken from a pillow. Throughout the series, the familiar object gradually becomes distorted, evoking the slow transition from wakefulness into sleep. The pillows appear to develop a life of their own: some forms suggest faces, while others resemble organic, abstract plants. Imprints of heads and fragments of text emerge as traces on the metal surfaces, suggesting the thoughts and associations that accompany the process of falling asleep.

The sculptures deliberately display different stages of surface treatment, ranging from almost raw, untreated areas to highly polished sections. During the casting process, the molten aluminium finds its own paths through the moulds, producing irregularities, extensions and organic structures. The partially uncontrollable behaviour of the material becomes an essential part of the work, echoing the unpredictability and inherent logic of dreams.
